New life

Perhaps there’s no better way to start a new year, in unusual times, than with a gentle reminder of the beauty of new life.

Two beautiful friends both became grandmothers at the end of 2021.  I was privileged to be visiting one of these friends on saturday afternoon when her son and baby grandson arrived for a visit, and coincidentally the other friend called me while I was visiting, with her new sleeping baby granddaughter on her knee…

The fragility and poignancy of new beginnings, new life - it gives us all hope for the future don’t you think. We need this. xx

The beautiful quote of Kahlil Gibran is one that has always spoken to me…

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
